Local high school juniors attend 2019 Youth Leadership Workshop

Sarah Hults of Resurrection High School, Carly Jones of East Central High School, Madisyn Peterson of St. Martin High School, and Jeb Wells of Vancleave High School represented Singing River Electric at the Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi Youth Leadership Workshop in Jackson held February 27-March 1, 2019.

While visiting Jackson, these young leaders participated in team-building exercises, discussed solutions to current issues facing young people and visited with their state legislators. In June, the students will travel to Washington D.C. for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Youth Tour to visit many of our nation’s historic landmarks and meet with Mississippi’s senators and representatives.

Singing River Electric’s student representatives Sarah Hults, Madisyn Peterson, Carly Jones and Jeb Wells visit the Governor’s office in Mississippi’s State Capitol while attending the 2019 Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi Youth Leadership Workshop.

“These four students are already leaders in their schools and can use this opportunity to further develop their leadership skills while interacting with students from all over Mississippi,” said Singing River Electric General Manager and CEO Brian Hughey.

To qualify for Singing River Electric’s program, students were required to have a 3.0 grade average, be involved in extra-curricular activities and reside in Singing River Electric’s service area. After being selected by their schools, the students participated in a one-day Cooperative University and interviews at the cooperative’s Lucedale office.
