November 9 @ 7:30 am - 8:30 am
Gautier High School will hold its 19th annual Veterans Breakfast Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, with the keynote address by (Ret.) Navy Cmdr. Robert Hardy of Pascagoula. A special video message from Sen. Bob Dole will also be shown to the veterans.
Gautier High School hosts one of the biggest veterans celebrations on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with more than 300 veterans and their families expected to attend. The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the cafeteria followed by a short program. The veterans are then brought to into the gym for the main portion of the event.
The Veterans Breakfast was started 19 years ago by Susie Bounds, a history teacher at the school. She wanted her students to meet and speak with these men and women so her students would understand the price of freedom and the sacrifices and hardships America’s military endured to ensure that freedom. The breakfast recognizes veterans from every branch of the military.
A graduate of Pascagoula High School, Hardy joined the U.S. Navy in 1965 and served as an officer specializing in Underwater Intelligence and Surface Warfare. After active duty, he joined the U.S. Navy Reserve where he served another 24 years. In the Reserves, he served as Commanding Officer for two Navy Reserve combat ship units, the USS Garcia and USS Boulder, and served as C/O over U.S. Naval Control of Shipping for the Gulf Coast. Hardy held a top secret final security clearance for 25 years and retired with the rank of Commander with 26 years of service.
As a civilian, Hardy worked at AT&T and Bell South for 23 years and served as president/CEO over a software communication company for six years before starting RMH Enterprises LLC in 1991 which he ran for 24 years.
