Small businesses have many opportunities to grow their business through Small Business Summer with the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. The 10th Anniversary ANCHOR Awards will be held on August 8th. Applications for $2,500 Small Business Grants are due on September 14th by 5:00 p.m. The Summer Learning Series started in May and continues monthly through August with topics relevant to small business owners and employees. All new members of the Chamber who join between May 1st and August 31st are additionally in a drawing for a $1,250 Small Business Grant (subject to approval). These opportunities are available to members of the Chamber, and membership is available to all businesses, non-profits, individuals and retirees.

The second seminar for the Summer Learning Series will be on Thursday, June 21st, at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce (720 Krebs Avenue in Pascagoula) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees should bring their lunch. The Summer Learning Series seminar on May 17th will be on “Accounting for Small Business” by Jason S. Keenum, CPA. Other topics include: July 19 – “Digital Marketing” by Chart Local; August 16 – “E-Commerce for Your Business” by Mississippi State University Extension Service. These are free for Chamber members, and there is a $25 fee per seminar for non-members. Attendees should bring their lunch and register through the Chamber.

The ANCHOR Awards was created to honor, reward and celebrate the achievements of outstanding small businesses and non-profit organizations in the community. The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber’s Small Business Issue Manager Group recognize that small businesses and non-profit organizations are the “anchors” that make the community successful. Applications for the ANCHOR Awards are due on June 22nd and are open for the following nomination categories:

• Rookie Business of the Year Award
Company has been in business more than one year but less than three years (with under 200 employees).
• Small Business of the Year Award Category 1
Company has 50 or fewer employees
• Small Business of the Year Award Category 2
Company has 51 to 200 employees
• Non-Profit Organization
An entity with IRS Section ‘501(c)(3)’ status

The ANCHOR Awards program will be held on Wednesday, August 8th, at 7:30 a.m. at Pelican Landing Conference Center in Moss Point. Tickets are $30 each, and Gold and Silver level sponsorships are available. Contact Linda Johnson at JohnsonL@jcchamber.com or 228-762-3391 about sponsorship opportunities.

The $2,500 Small Business Grant application is due on September 14th at 5:00 p.m. The applications are available to businesses and non-profits that are members of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce with under 50 employees. The grants will be awarded at the Annual Chamber Membership Meeting on October 9, 2018. The grants can be used for the following: marketing materials (including websites), storefront and/or customer area improvements and display for merchandise.
